See projectThe premiere showing of “Pilots” took place on October 7, 2017 at the Musical Theatre Roma in Warsaw. It’s the newest production of the Polish musical scene and one that was the most anticipated spectacle in 2017.
Kamil Pohl – Animation Director and DOP – cocreated the spectacle for a year and a half, handling the visual and technological aspects of the show, trying to merge the two worlds of digital animation and stage acting. Together with Michał Niewiara (Art Director) they created nearly 35 digital sets and animations. Displayed on huge LED screens, they depict, among other things, prewar Warsaw, London and Paris, the start of WWII and strongly poetic scenes of Hitler’s rise to power or Moulin Rogue energetic show. Aside from the scenography, Platige Image Entertainment prepared three animated films telling the story of Polish pilots in Battle of Britain. Actors from the spectacle played in the movies which were inspired by western duels of good and evil, filled with tension, highlighting Poland’s role in the fight for free England.
Dynamic scenes and attractive visual form of hand-painting led to crowds on the opening night. Very quickly “Pilots” were called by critics the most interesting and expensive musical in history.
