MUG Coproduction

The newest movie by Małgorzata Szumowska, one of the most interesting Polish directors, awarded – among other things – with the Silver Bear for Best Director for “Body” at 65th Berlin International Film Festival

Jacek (Mateusz Kościukiewicz) is working on a building site close to the Polish-German border where the world’s largest statue of Jesus is being constructed. There he looses his face in a terrible accident. After an innovatory operation he becomes famous in the whole country, being celebrated by media as a martyr.

However, when he comes back to his hometown, people there don’t know how to treat him. He is now a stranger to them. He doesn’t even recognize himself in the mirror. At the same time the statue of Jesus grows bigger and bigger. Szumowska’s story, full of drama and dark comedy, becomes an excuse for a commentary on the condition of our society.

“Mug” won a Silver Bear and Grand Jury Prize on 68th Berlin International Film Festival. Platige Films was responsible for coproduction and visual effects of the movie.
